What inspired you to start your business?
I used to work in a cubicle as an admin, even though I had an art degree, finding my way to becoming a freelance artist and designer was complicated and difficult. I felt my passions and my soul calling me to make full use of my creative voice, and that desire would not sit by while I gave all my time to a job that used none of my abilities. Since 2005 I have pursued my passions as an artist exclusively. I have never been happier, even when things didn't always work out. Art is not for the faint of heart, there is boldness bound up in it and requires courage, but the rewards are undeniable.
What makes your house a home?
Art. As a multi-media artist, my house is a curated exhibit. I use all of what I do, in painting, ceramics, textiles and photography. I'm always switching it up based upon my passion for the season. As a designer, I coach people to consider that their spaces should be a balance between comfort and excitement so I'm always doing the unexpected.
What's one thing you love to do that you get to do almost every day?
I make art to make a difference almost every day. I get to use the sale of my art to support a community in Kampala Uganda. My art sales this year have paid the school fees for two bright young orphaned boys, paid for medical attention and eye glasses for their guardians, provided rental assistance, and started a poultry business that will eventually provide a sustainable income source. I had no idea the amount of joy this would give me, nor did I have a clue just how far money from my art could go!
What simple pleasures do you like to enjoy?
Among many other things, I like to cook for friends and family. I like to enjoy local produce and artisanal flavors.
Name one thing on your "bucket list."
I am torn between a desire to travel and the wish to further develop Northport as an arts destination.
Why did you choose to be part of Nest on Main?
I am a Northport resident artist and a product of our beautiful town. When people visit Nest on Main, they can expect to get a sense of the flavor of the village. Northport is a gem on the Gold Coast, and Nest aims to capture that essence and nurture it. Our history, our arts, our scenic beauty all can be found at Nest so I had to be part of that.
