What inspired you to start your business?
Sweet Magnolia Home, began humbly with a country kitchen, nature, and Spirit. It is a forum in which I have been able to share my creativity with others.
I started making candles, soap, bath salts, potpourri, wreaths, etc, many years ago. Unhappy with other products on the market, I wanted to make something better-more natural for our skin, the air we breathe, and more environmentally friendly to our shared planet. Natural living and self-nurturing takes a great deal of mindfulness. It also sets a good example for our future generations. My business was built from a desire to create products that incorporate nature with everyday practicality. They invoke a greater level of well being through the use of our senses. I feel so alive when working with natural ingredients, essential oils, and botanical's. It is there where I am able to tap into the source that feeds my creativity making the possibilities seem endless. It is an inherent gift received from Spirit, for which I am most grateful and wish to share with others.
What makes your house a home?
I always say that it's not enough to have a home that just looks good. It needs to feel good, and smell good too. Home, is an all encompassing sensory experience that allows others to grasp the essence of who we are. My home has a happy combination of family heirlooms, traditional furniture, with layers of fragrance and textures for added warmth. Home is my sanctuary, it warms, comforts, nourishes, and protects.
What's one thing you love to do that you get to do almost every day?
Connecting with nature and Spirit on a daily inspires my creativity.
What simple pleasures do you like to enjoy?
I like making a cup of tea in the morning using fresh dried herbs and fruits. Connecting with nature at the start of the day when all is still quiet in the world. I like listening to the chatter of the birds and observing the animals outdoors. Growing and drying the flowers I use in my potpourri is both relaxing and rewarding. My absolute favorite thing to do is candle making while listening to Celtic music!
Name one thing on your "bucket list."
I would love to go on a pilgrimage to Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. It would feel as if I was going back home.
Why did you choose to be part of Nest on Main?
I became a Northport Village resident in 1998. I was drawn here by a feeling of "coming home"! Nest on Main, has this same type of energy that's warm and inviting. It draws you in with feelings of familiarity and surprise. The music is soothing, the fragrance's are inviting, and the decor and accents of old and new, appeal to the many aspects of ourselves and in our own lives that we call home. I feel that the products I create help to enhance that feeling for others. I am proud and grateful to be part of the Nest community.
