I design and create hand knits for all ages from the finest materials. Having worked for Ralph Lauren and other fashion brands, quality of the materials was so important for me! I seek out the finest materials to use, specializing in natural fibers, whether they are hand painted onto the softest extra fine merino wool by a collection of artisans, or spun in the USA or just the softest squishiest extra-fine merino ever! All of my designs are knit by me by hand, stitch by stitch with needles and lots of love. No machines, no helpers, just me.
What inspired you to start your business?
It all started with needles and a beautiful ball of wool. Once I learned how to knit, I was hooked! The process of knitting is almost like a meditation, you fall into a rhythm. And with knitting, you have unlimited choices of colors, stitches and designs- whatever you can imagine you can create! I am so drawn in by colors and texture and like to impart that in all I do. People are drawn in to my work by the colors and then they feel them and are amazed by how soft and cozy they are! I think about solving problems with my knits- my hands are cold but I need my fingers free- fingerless mitts! MY daughter needs to cover her ears but not mess up her ballet hair- so I created a headband that buttons around her head! So my pieces are beautiful, useful and will last because of the quality of the materials I use.
What makes your house a home?
My family, including my two children and the sweetest two Australian Shepherds makes it a home. We love to cook, bake and create together- whether it is music or art, something is always being created within these walls.
What's one thing you love to do that you get to do almost every day?
I love to teach! I teach at many different venues: Posey preschool and also teach sewing, knitting and preschool art at Love of Learning Montessori and additionally I teach knitting, sewing and more at EmmaLoops Craft Studio in Huntington. Being able to share my passion for creating with others is amazing! When you create something with your hands, it is a very powerful feeling. To see children accomplish creating something and the smile on their faces as they have done it, that smile, that sense of "I did this!!!" is the greatest reward!
What simple pleasures do you like to enjoy?
Drink coffee and knit. Preferably at the same time. I love to snuggle up and watch a movie at home with my dogs at my feet. And I love live theater. We are so lucky to have three theater companies in Northport, with so many others close by too!
Name one thing on your "bucket list."
To take my children on a family trip to Europe!
Why did you choose to be part of Nest on Main?

When I first walked in, not only was it visually enticing- the walls! the floors! the gratitude wall art piece! but look around at all the treasures it contains!! Mixing handmade art and artisan items with vintage finds, new housewares is just what Northport needed! Every time I walk in, I find another piece I have to have or need to give as a gift. I am thrilled to have my work within the walls of the Nest.
